Welcome to Manipal Press

Today (Monday) was our first day at Manipal Press Ltd.  Rachel and I were so excited to see our office and eager to make a good impression.  A car came to pick us up at 9 o’clock, and we met with the Senior Manager of HR.  He welcomed us to India and Manipal Press and briefed us on our internship and the Manipal

Group.  After that we met the HR department.  Everyone was so friendly in welcoming us and there were even a few other students there “on project.”  Next we met the VP of HR and Mr. TMA Pai.  The Pai family is well renowned not only in Manipal, but all of India.  The family built the entire town of Manipal from the ground up, including Manipal University, the Manipal Hospital, the Manipal Press, and much more.  It was very exciting meet some of the people we would be working with and overwhelming at the same time to meet so many people in such a short time span.  Then we went and met with the VP of Corporate Affairs who told us more about the history of the Manipal Group and more specifically, Manipal Press.  He also talked with us about what we would like

to do specifically in the company.

Shortly after that the Maket Development Executive joined us, and we all went to lunch, where they were patient enough to teach us a bit about Indian food, culture, and Manipal.  We even got to go on a bit of an off-road excursion to see a beautiful river surrounded by palm trees and “the flora and the fauna.”  It was wonderful to see Manipal from the outskirts of the town; it is an incredibly beautiful place.  We also got to see some of the well-respected Manipal University; the campus was absolutely beautiful.

After returning to the office, Rachel and I were allowed to go home early. Based on the values of the Group and the wonderful people we have met so far, it sounds like the Manipal Group will be a wonderful place to work for the next two months.  We were so excited about the company, but after what we deemed an entirely exhausting day all we wanted to do was crash.  After a nap we went to dinner at a restaurant called Saiba and were happy to find our food delicious again.  We went back to our hotel stuffed and happy.  Still tired, we went to bed early again, laughing at ourselves because we were so boring.
