Thursday night after a short run and an Insanity workout, I was more than ready for dinner. Rachel and I collectively decided that we were ready for some American food and ordered grilled chicken sandwiches and French fries…so delicious. Even though I generally stay away from fried foods, nothing says America like French fries. After practically inhaling our food, we were just about ready to call it a night. And might I add that thanks to our evening workouts, we are now eating dinner around eight or nine o’clock, a definite improvement from our initial five o’clock dinner.
This morning (Friday), we woke up a little later than planned, so I had to hurry to get ready because I had a skype date with Emily, a good friend from high school. It was such a nice surprise when two extra friends, Jennifer and Shania, were there too! It was a great way to start the day! At work it was a great morning because my boss told me that my cost sheet looked…drum roll please….very good! Ok maybe that didn’t deserve a drum roll, but I have been working on it for a week, so I was very pleased. Now I’m just working on cleaning it up and putting it in presentation form.
For lunch this afternoon, Rachel and I went to one of our favorite restaurants, Saiba. It seems like we have about four or five restaurants that have been recommended to us, and we just rotate. However, we really love Saiba and generally have to go there every few days to get our fix. Today we thought we would be daring and try something spicy. I was a little nervous given my pre-India standard of “How not spicy can you make it?” But thanks to Rachel’s insistence that everything is an acquired taste, I have a new appreciation for spicy food. We ordered Chicken Bharta, labeled medium spicy (keep in mind this is India medium spicy, not American medium spicy). I was excited to test out my new spicy tolerance. It was so delicious and didn’t even taste that spicy to us! We were quite excited to declare a new favorite dish, and I was even more excited that I could eat spicy food, even by Indian standards.
If you thought my lunch story was exciting, you might need to prepare yourself for what we have planned for after work. This evening after work Rachel and I and a coworker friend, Nitu, are going saree shopping. Yesterday, she showed us a few different kinds of sarees, silk and fancy. She has been so nice in spending time with us, and even answers all our silly questions about Indian culture. Nitu will show us the good places to go and help us pick out something pretty. We will get to wear them to the wedding next weekend. It is a perfect excuse to get a saree since we really wanted one anyway. We are so excited because our friend said she would help make us look as Indian as possible, complete with saree, bangles, and who knows what else! We can’t wait! Unfortunately the excitement of saree shopping is making six o’clock seem very far away. Good thing I have my cost sheet to distract me!
